Holding Congress Accountable - How Soon They (Think We) Forget

There were many elected officials who jumped on the Dump Kavanaugh bandwagon because of sexual misconduct allegations supposedly committed by the judge, some 35 years ago, though there is absolutely no evidence, just "She said."

These people sit comfortably on Capitol Hill.

But, one wonders, how comfortable are they?

accountabilityPerhaps not all of those demanding that Judge Kavanaugh not be confirmed are guilty of sexual misconduct themselves but, keep in mind that less than a year ago there were reports by most of the major media that millions of taxpayer dollars have been used to pay off sexual harassment claims in DC, committed by our elected officials, along with other wrongdoings, such as any and all kind of workplace disputes.

The fund is administered by the the Office of Compliance, under authority of the Congressional Accountability Act. All 98 Senators and 390 Representatives who voted "for" the Act in 1995 (and those who voted to amend it in 2015), are, in reality, accomplices to covering up the behavior of their peers, which is then paid out under the heading "Awards and Settlements."

Perhaps some of them really didn't know what this fund would be used for but it is clear from the media reports back in November 2017 (including CNN, The Washington Post, USA Today, Newsweek, et al) that sexual misconduct suits have been settled using this very account. In all, there have been at least 264 settled claims totaling over $17 million, including $935,000 last year alone.

silenceUnfortunately, contrary to the name of the bill, there appears to be no real accountability for these secret settlements.

And, even worse is the fact that it is our money that is being used to cover up these unlawful acts of those in Congress.

It certainly begs the question, why do We the People have to pay for our elected representatives' transgressions?

Why are they not being held accountable for their actions?

And, what about the Kavanaugh hearing?  Dr. Christine Blasey Ford steps forward, after 35 years, and makes a claim against the judge which then becomes a major public spectacle, all the while violating Judge Kavanaugh's 5th Amendment rights.

Yet these very people, who are sitting in judgment of him being appointed, are able to stand behind a cloak of absolute secrecy (and hush money paid to their accusers). Logic would assume that if the accusers were paid that the perpetrator was guilty of whatever abuse they had been accused.

Where exactly is the accountability if We the People do not find out who on Capitol Hill has abused their staff, employees or others AND We the People also have to pay for that elected person's illegal act?

Why don't we DEMAND that the Congressional Accountability Act  (CAA) be repealed and that any person who sat, or is currently sitting, on the Hill who benefitted from a payout from this fund be ceremoniously kicked out of office (with no benefits) and be required to pay back whatever amount of money was used to keep their dirty little secrets from public view (plus interest)?

Founding Father and second President John Adams stated, "Liberty cannot be preserved without general knowledge among the people."  The CAA keeps hidden from We the People the best-kept inner secrets of those who have been elected to serve us, yet they evidently feel that they can do whatever they want and their circle will protect them with hush money paid by us.

Thomas Jefferson, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence and the man who followed Adams into the White House, stated, “The whole art of government consists in the art of being honest.” How on Earth can we accept having these dishonest people (those who commit workplace wrongdoings and those who help cover-up their acts) represent us in Congress?

When and where does it end?

We the People deserve better.

We the PeopleWe need to Look, not Listen. We need to know what the people in office, and those running for office, actually do, not listen to what they say. We need to be informed when an elected official breaks the law and they must then be escorted from office for doing so, as they have violated their oath of office.

We need to KNOW our Constitution, our rights, our liberty. And then ACT accordingly.

There are many paths to educate yourself and your family. Learn the basics by watching the award-winning In Search of Liberty Constitution movie, and then, for in-depth study, enroll in a Constitution Boot Camp from Building Blocks for Liberty or join KrisAnne Hall's Liberty First University.

Freedom is not free. It must constantly be guarded and defended.
