What happened to our Independence?

Mt Rushmore - US FlagIt is July 5, 2020, the day after Independence Day. My thoughts, however, are riveted to this question: what happened to our Independence?

I can remember our Independence like it was ... 2019.

Then a virus from Wuhan China hit and - ZAP - our rights were curtailed, our liberty was violated, our freedom diminished. Only "essential" workers were allowed to earn a paycheck. That is like saying most Americans and the jobs they perform (that incidentally fuel our economy) are not essential.

What makes no sense is that this virus is far less hazardous than others in recent times ... others that did NOT cripple our country and take away our rights: the Asian Flu (1957-58) claimed 1.1 million lives worldwide and 116,000 in the US; the Hong Kong Flu (1968-69) killed between one and four million people worldwide, and somewhere between 34,000 and 100,000 in the US; and, the H1N1 Swine Flu (2009-10) reportedly could have affected as many as 1.4 billion people, resulting in between 151,700 and 575,400 deaths across the globe.

PandemicAnd, the problem with COVID-19 is that there are so many constant, conflicting reports of how many people have been affected and how many deaths. And what about doctors and nurses who claim that there are COVID-19 reported deaths that were not caused by this pandemic.

It certainly is not even close to the Hong Kong Flu. I was in my junior and senior years in high school during that one and I cannot recall much media attention about it and it certainly did not cause ANY closures or lock downs.

Through the draconian and tyrannical measures by mayors and governors in our America, most, if not all, celebrations of our country's Independence were cancelled.

Cancelled.

Enough is enough.

America was founded upon some very basic, yet quite incredible principles, including the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Unheard of, at the time, for all people of a country to have unalienable rights and live with precious liberty. Prior to that time only monarchs, rulers, and the like, had and kept those jewels.

US Flag- ConstitutionWe the People have rights.

What has been done during this pandemic is totally unconstitutional.

No local, state or federal government person or body has any authority to mandate quarantines of people who are not sick. They have no power to execute mass business closures due to health concerns, real or imagined. They have no power to order anyone who is well to wear a mask.

Period.

This is America. The Land of the Free. The Home of the Brave.

Let us take back our Independence!
